The chestnuts are so spiky one can not handle them. Mine look just the same now they are edible ones.

As a child I would climb the chestnut trees and pick those prickly things to find the chestnut hidden inside!
I am in Canada could these be the same chestnut trees we have here?

They also grow in Austria, but only in warm regions, not in the Alps!
We call them "Maroni".
